Why you should start programming ?
learning to code means challenging yourself. You'll struggle, have breakthroughs, and will come out of it as a better person. You'll gain a new way of thinking through problems and maybe even see the world a bit differently.
why programming/coding is important?
life before technology took over and made everything "easier," here's a glimpse of how different the world was in the 20th century. And for more on how far we've come
- before mobile-based applications, we used newspaper
- before we have analog CDS, DVDs now we have internet
- before we have text-books now we used e-books
- Before GPS, we used atlases to get us around
- Before e-mail or texting, we wrote letters
- Before Kindles, we had to go to the library
If you’re a coder - or coder-in-training - you’re well on your way to putting yourself in a position to seize such an opportunity. And to quote Walt Disney, “It’s fun to do the impossible.”
You should start programming if:
- you want a career as a software developer or you anticipate creating a digital startup in the future
- you want a career where programming may be beneficial
- you want a hobby to do recreational programming (this hobby may be shared with others)
- you’re curious about programming
- you want to earn without any degree
Note that most careers do not benefit from programming.
Do NOT start programming because people tell you it’s the new “literacy” or that it will teach you “how to think.” This is baloney.
Do programmers need a Computer Science degree /other degrees to get a job?
There is no need to join college for a degree if you feel too late. Just improve your skills and learn practical skills in web or mobile development, front end, databases, and some infrastructure. You can use competitive programming to excel in the field and applying directly to companies off-campus. Also learn the stuff to pass the test and interviews. You need to be very passionate about programming, active in the community, and have the same depth and breadth of knowledge as a CS graduate (easier than it sounds).
Absolutely you can get a job without a degree. It might be a little bit tough path if you are not passionate and self-motivated. The technical field's great thing is that it’s one of the few places that is very open-minded about hiring.
here are many examples of tech pros who don’t have the “appropriate” degrees. Some of the tech industry’s leading figures-including Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, and Azim Premji — dropped out of college well before obtaining a degree.
